Manhattan, the heart of the big apple. Iconic for having some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. Iconic for its neon lit Times Square screens. Iconic for its Broadway shows. Also iconic for its beautiful scenery. Home of the movie Home Alone. While it is a very beautiful place it can also be very stressful. From the crazy things you see in public transit, to the crazy drivers you have to put up with on the roads, expensive rent. In other words the real world is tough. But when you get home and you kick those shoes off you feel so relaxed in your own comfortable space. Its like an escape from reality into your own realm. Home is a place where you are most comfortable. A place where you can be and not worry about whatever is going on outside that door. A home can be a house, a store, a person, a pet or even an object. As long as it brings comfort in your life, it is home.
For me home is my actual home. I get home from work and immediately all the stress is lifted. It’s where you can do anything without the judgement of anyone. It’s where you can watch the football games on Sundays and root for your favorite team. it’s where you can bring your friends over and watch the baseball postseason. it’s where you can spend the whole night playing the new video game. In other words it’s a place where you can do what you want without any judgement or any intrusion from the outside world. There are many other activities you can do at home that make you feel comfortable but that is the whole purpose of home to be comfortable.
Home is where you feel most comfortable, that’s a valid opinion but home doesn’t just have to mean that. For me home is also a reminder that there’s always a goal in life. Manhattan is a very beautiful place. Many landmarks, many movies filmed here. But that’s the catch it’s great to look at but to live it’s definitely tough. Travel to upper manhattan and the struggles slowly become more visible. Every one of us is working to make it out. The way we work differs. I may be going to school in hopes for a better future but the guy next to me is selling weed on the block, saving anything he can so that he can invest into something and make it out.
Those two points of views on home are very similar but different at the same time. One talks about how comfortable being home makes them feel. On the other hand, the other point of view is talking about how home is a reminder that there’s always a goal in life and it’s going to be hard trying to accomplish it. The similarities are that at some point, those were my points of views. They change over time because one becomes more familiar with the modern world. For example, in the past I just looked at the brightsides of home. When you start to mature over time the negatives really start to show. Since it’s such a new feeling, those feelings or views really start projecting a little more than usual. But now that I am familiar with the modern world, I understand that it’s a mixture of both.
To me a modern home is both a place where I can be comfortable and a reminder of my goals in life. But in the future these views might change or I might add more views. Because for example if i do reach my goals one day my ideas may change. Depending on how life goes of course. As one matures one’s ideas always change. From my present experience i just hope i dont stop believing that home is always somewhere i can spend my time and use it as a happy place for whatever hobbies or enjoyments i have at that stage of my life. The future is unpredictable. You can’t predict if anything else might change my view on the modern home.
To sum up, The modern home is solely based on everyone’s personal experiences. You can’t guarantee that everything i’ve said can apply to anyone else. But whats for sure that opinions will always be changing. Whether its my opinions changing or the guys selling weed down the block it’ll always change and become more sophisticated.
